Delicious Gluten-Free Breakfast at the Boon Fly Cafe in Napa
Let me start out by saying the Boon Fly Cafe is not a gluten-free restaurant. However, they are one of the few top notch restaurants in Napa that offer several delicious gluten-free options for breakfast and brunch.
I’ve been to the Boon Fly Cafe several times before this trip and always loved their food. They offer rustic American dishes such as chicken and waffles, Eggs Benedict, and Corned Beef Hash. They are well known for their delicious donuts (Not gluten-free). In the past, my go-to items were the donuts and the Eggs Benedict.
Since my son and I switched to a gluten-free diet I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy it as much. I knew the donuts were not going to be an option for me this trip and I was bummed. What I didn’t expect was for them to have several gluten free options clearly marked on the menu, including a desert! When I mentioned to the waiter that my son and I were gluten-free he took careful notes and asked if we had any other allergies. He explained that they make their gluten free dishes in separate pans so that there is no cross contamination. I was very impressed with the care he took to ensure we enjoyed our food and didn’t have any health issues because of it.
So many times when I ask for gluten-free at a restaurant I get confused and annoyed looks from staff. Not at the Boon Fly!
Here’s what we ate: I had the Banana Nut Bread to start with my coffee. It comes drizzled with fruit and lemon curd. It was delicious! Moist, sweet and perfect. Then I had the Corned Beef Hash. This is the Boon Fly’s unique take on the classic dish. They start with house made corned beef on top of spinach and hash browns. It is topped with a mildly spicy jalapeño hollandaise sauce. The dish is flavorful and filling. I actually remember eating this at the Boon Fly before I was gluten-free.
Atlas had the hash browns and an old fashioned hot dog with no bun. He doesn’t eat eggs right now and the gluten-free sausage has dairy in it (which he can’t have) so we opted for a hot dog.
Other gluten-free options include the Green Eggs and Ham and a Red Quinoa and Egg White Bowl. You can see the full menu on the website. Make sure you are clear with the staff if you have an allergy to gluten or anything else. From my experience they are very friendly and accommodating.
The Boon Fly Cafe is located at 4048 Sonoma Hwy in Napa, CA. It is part of the Carneros Resort but you don't have to be a hotel guest to visit the cafe.
I hope you get a chance to eat here! It is one of my all time favorite restaurants.
Ps. If you are not gluten free, get the donuts!
Enjoy!
