Week One: SF 1 Dahl Family 0
Ok I'm not going to lie, the city kicked our butts this week. Dad got right to work so Atlas and I were on our own to get settled into the new place. We were exhausted and emotional most of the week. A cranky toddler plus a tired mama equaled lots of tears for both.
Our bodies got used to the 75 degree weather in OC and we were freezing as soon as we arrived here. Little things like Target runs and daily walks turned out to be challenging rather than fun due to traffic and crowds. It took longer than planned to unpack and settle in, so all of our routines were disrupted. I found myself wondering if I made a bad decision bringing a toddler to live in a downtown environment and I felt a bit defeated.
I reached out to some of my friends for words of advice and encouragement. One of them really stuck with me. My friend said "it's like you constantly have to outsmart the city". This helped me change my viewpoint and I immediately started thinking of this more as a game. I stopped feeling defeated and realized that it's only round one.
We will figure this out and we will have fun doing it! That's my new motto and I am excited for the weeks to come. We just have to figure out the flow of things up here. What time are the crowds and traffic? Which Target actually has a parking garage? What coffee shop has a park next to it? Are there apps that make life easier here? I just know there are many solutions, and I plan on finding them! So stay tuned...
xx,
Ana
